How these lists work.

How we turn official guidance into practical, readable lists.

Start with a source. Keep its meaning.

We consult UK Be Ready and US Ready.gov guidance, with CDC water guidance where relevant. Source links are attached to the category or claim they support. They do not mean a government endorses a product or this website.

Be specific about quantities.

The UK home water baseline is 3 litres per person per day for drinking, plus extra for other uses. Ready.gov’s baseline is 1 US gallon per person per day for drinking and sanitation. Those are different specifications, not a simple unit conversion.

Our priorities and portable food/water reserves are editorial starting suggestions. A grab bag’s bottle is not a full day’s water. Seven- and fourteen-day complete-kit plans are optional editorial goals; the CDC specifically discusses longer water storage where possible.

Adapt without inventing certainty.

Consumables can scale with household size and duration. A radio does not need to multiply every extra day. Infant, pet, medical, and accessibility needs need individual attention; the checklist uses reminders, not diagnoses or dosage advice.

No-purchase actions belong here.

Writing down numbers, checking existing supplies, learning local risks, and talking to neighbours are part of preparedness. We do not rank essentials by commission or tell people to buy a new version of something that already works.

Explain what has and hasn’t been reviewed.

Source-review dates are shown on each guide. Content will need rechecking regularly and when guidance changes. We do not claim expert review, product testing, certification, or guaranteed safety. Item coverage is not a readiness score.
